Truffle Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Recipe Notes:
You can use any cheese for this recipe if you are not able to find the ones listed. However, I recommend at least pairing a small amount of strong cheese with a large amount of medium-ish cheese to get dynamic flavour. Try to avoid using cheeses that are too mild as the flavour will get lost.
Ingredients:
White Sourdough Loaf
1/2 Cup Grated Light Cheddar Cheese
1/4 Cup Grated Truffle Parmesan Cheese
1 Button Mushroom (Sliced)
Butter
Coarse Sea Salt
Optional:
Hot Sauce (Tapatio, El Yucateco, Franks Red Hot)
Tools:
Cast Iron Pan (or Small Frying Pan)
Cover / Lid
Directions:
Step 1. Prep:
Cut two large slices from the sourdough loaf.
Butter all 4 sides of the bread.
Thinly slice the mushroom.
Heat a bit of oil in the pan and lightly sauté the mushrooms with a bit of salt (remove and set aside).
Step 2. Cook:
Wipe and excess oil from the pan and return to a high heat.
Throw a pinch of coarse salt in the bottom of the pan.
Layer the buttered bread on top of the salt and toast one side till golden brown.
Flip the bread and lower the flame (this will make sure the other side doesn’t burn while layering the ingredients).
Evenly distribute the cheese over both open faces of bread and add the sautéd mushrooms.
*Dribble hot sauce over the slices (if you are using some).
Cover the pan to keep the steam in and melt the cheese.
When the cheese is melted combine both sides to make a smamich! Press it down firmly and twirl it around to pick up all the melted cheese on the edges of the bread :)
